Jamesa Pruitt, Behavioral Health Specialist

Ms. Pruitt is not only a Therapist, but she is also a wife, mother, teacher and encourager.  She obtained her Master’s in Therapy & Counseling from Columbia College Chicago and her Bachelor’s from Chicago State University. As a Therapist, Jamesa has experience working with Children, Adolescents, Adults and Mature Adults — all in various modalities such as Individuals, Couples and Families, those in partnership with DCFS and those with a post-incarceration background. She has had the privilege to work with individuals with Anxiety, Depression, Sexual Trauma, Bipolar, Addictions, Obsessive Compulsive Disorder, as well as those with Comorbid mental health issues.

Although she is familiar with various types of therapeutic approaches such as Solution-focused Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT), she is known for integrating Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) and Narrative Therapy.  This is based on a belief that trauma and past experiences have caused our brains to develop a new way of thinking… thus creating “our” story. This story, (good or bad) needs to be told, listened to and possibly rewritten. Each therapy session is an opportunity to develop new cognitive pathways and healthy thinking patterns to not only cope with and heal the trauma but also create and share a NEW story.
